Picture Day and Reading Fundraiser Information - PTO Weekly Update 09-27-15

Learn2Earn Fundraiser


It's time for our fall fundraiser! Beginning October 2nd - November 5th, Glenridge students will be participating in a Learn2Earn Reading Fundraiser. Check out this short video to see what it's all about! How to start your account and more information will be coming home in Friday Flyers.

Picture Day 

Hellriegel's Foto will be taking student portraits Tuesday, September 29, 2015. All students will be photographed for school records and the student yearbook.  Come with your best smile!
All order must be prepaid. Please fill out the envelope that came home carefully and completely. Make sure the packet you want is marked and the exact payment is enclosed. Every student must have their own envelope (do not combine siblings).
Jamba Juice smoothie sales will take place during afternoon recess on Tuesday, September 29, 2015
Remember to send $2 with your child to school!
Money raised supports Glenridge programs.
Friday, October 2, 2015 popcorn will be sold during afternoon recess. Remember to send 50¢ to school, please send the exact change, it will help the process move faster and give students more time to enjoy their popcorn. Money raised supports Glenridge programs.

Vision and Hearing Screening

Grades 1,2,3 and 5 will be screened at Glenridge Monday, October 12th.  If your child wears glasses make sure they bring them.  Volunteers are needed to help this run smoothly. If you can offer your time contact Glenridge nurse Arlene McKee at 253-373-2486.

Book Fair

Volunteers are needed to help set up and staff the book fair. There are many opportunities to help, October 16 - 23. See if there is a time that works for you here.  Contact Sue Crissey in the Glenridge Library at 253-373-2488.

Fall Carnival

The Glenridge Fall Carnival will take place Friday, October 30, 2015.  We will need many volunteers to help run this event.  If you would like to help please contact thePTO for jobs that are available.

Art Docents

Art docent volunteers are parents, grandparents, friends of students, community members and senior citizen volunteers.  Free training courses are given at Green River Community College by the Interurban Center for the Arts. We also have training at Glenridge. The art docents have learned basic art concepts to teach the children. They have also learned how to present an art project that will reinforce what they have discussed with the children. See this year's art selection here.
There are currently many classrooms without art docents if you would like to help the following are in need:

Movie Night

A heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. Come see this month's selection on PTO movie night Thursday, October 8th at 6:30pm in the Glenridge cafeteria. This is a free event for students and their families. Concessions will be available for purchase; funds raised will support school programs. This is not a drop off event; children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

SIT Meeting

Join the School Improvement Team, Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 4:00 in the Glenridge library. Help establish plans for improvement and change, get involved in activities and events, Impact your child's education.

PTO Meeting

The next PTO Meeting is Tuesday, October 13, 2015  at 7:00 pm in the Glenridge library. Free childcare is provided. We welcome everybody, the PTO is for all parents and guardians. Can't attend the meeting?  Still want to share your ideas? Please leave a note with the office or contact us by email.

Box Tops and Labels for education

Are you clipping? Between now and October 16th, bring in your Box Tops and Labels for education in a bag/envelope marked with your student's name and their teacher. The class with the most participants and the class that collects the most will win! Each label is worth 10¢! Send in your labels today!

Goal Setting Conferences  

Students will be dismissed at 12:38 October 19 - 23 for parent, teacher and student goal setting conferences. Please fill out the form that came home in Friday Flyers on 9-25 and return them to your teacher as soon as possible. The purpose of goal setting conferences is to provide meaningful conversation with students and parents regarding students’ academic strengths and to set achievement goals and plans for the current school year.

Know the Glenridge Staff

This week our spotlight is on Estela Morgan, our new Health Tech/Family Advocate. She spends two hours a day as a Health Tech and Two hours a day as a Family Advocate.
As a Health Tech, she helps the nurse and provides bandages, ice packs, and checks for fevers.
As a family advocate, she helps meet students’ needs such as purchasing school supplies, providing breakfast/lunch, finding homework help and obtaining counseling or health services. Estela helps families with food and clothing, housing, emergency assistance, transportation, job seeking, legal aid and health services. If you know a Glenridge student or family in need, please contact the school office.

Estela is from Southern California and has 3 kids, ages 13, 10 and 5. Estela is bilingual in Spanish and English and loves art/crafts and anything creative. 

Reptile Man

Be prepared to see all kinds of amazing reptiles! Evening assembly TuesdayJanuary 6th 6:30-7:30 pm $1 person. More information coming home soon!

Ivar’s Night

Have dinner at Ivar’s and earn money for Glenridge. Thursday, January 15th 5-7 pmteachers will be there serving food. Come support them, and let your kids visit with friends. Watch for a flyer coming home in January. 

Boxtops and Labels for Education

Keep collecting your Box Tops and Labels for Education over winter break. A new contest is on its way! Will your class win this time?

Community Events


Join Heavier Than Air Theatre on Glenridge night Friday, December 19, 2014 at 7:00 pm and see their performance of Oliver! Tickets purchased by December 16, 2014 will get a discount and a backstage tour! Fill out the form and return it and your payment to the Glenridge office.

PTO WEEKLY UPDATE 11/23/14

Happy Thanksgiving!

Enjoy the short school week and the extra time with your family and friends. 

Holiday Breakfast

This year's Holiday Breakfast is Saturday December 6th, 9:00 - 11:00 am. A yummy pancake breakfast, a choir performance, face painting, crafts and a photo booth! Suggested donation of $5 per family. All proceeds will go to purchasing needed classroom supplies.  
We are excited to have a raffle at this years breakfast! Purchase one ticket for $3 or four tickets for $10 and have a chance to win an American Girl Doll!  With a value of $115, Julie and her story book would make a wonderful gift.

If you would like to volunteer your time set up is Friday, December 5th at 3:45 pm and Saturday, December 6th at 7:30 am. Clean up will follow breakfast Saturday, December 6th at  11:00.
We also need 2-3 photo booth operators.

Help us make this breakfast even more yummy, a financial contribution will help to purchase an assortment of breakfast meats (bacon and sausage), please make out checks to Glenridge PTO, write “Holiday Breakfast” on your envelope and leave them at the school office.

We would love your involvement. Any other suggestion of how we can make this a bigger and better occasion is welcome! Send all offers of help and suggestions to glenridgepto@gmail.com.

Start asking at workplaces & businesses for sponsors!  If any business is willing to sponsor our yearbook, we will advertise for them for FREE for 1 year at all of our PTO sponsored events.  Email pictures, interested businesses and any questions to Lisa Rohlfing.

Canned food drive

Student council is participating in a canned food drive that will support the Kent Community Center and Maple Valley Food Banks. Please bring in items December 8th-10th
  • Must be non-perishable (canned, dried, not frozen).
  • Must be in original containers with original label.
  • No glass jars.
  • No home-canned foods.
  • Paper towels.
  • Toilet tissue.
  • Facial tissue.
  • Soaps/shampoo.

Boxtopoly!

The first class to fill their Boxtopoly game board with Box Tops from the listed participating brands will win a fun surprise! So keep collecting Box Top labels and the brand logos and send them to school as soon as you collect them.  You can send others as well. Each one is worth 10 cents.

Paige Wehmeyer, 1st grade teacher, was born and raised in Seattle. She went to Washington State University as a third generation Coug! She enjoys scuba diving, hiking, and reading.

In the Classroom

In 2nd grade: In reading, students are studying characters and how they face challenges. In math, there are addition and subtraction story problems. Our students are also writing “how to stories” and learning how to type. And yes, we do art as well.
