PTO Weekly Update 03-13-16

Thank you!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the Second Annual Glenridge Spring Break Family Dance a success!  We couldn't have done it without all of our wonderful volunteers, families who donated baked goods and everyone who came out and had fun!

Be sure to send in any pictures you took of the fun to our yearbook staff!

BOLT 

The canine star of a fictional sci-fi/action show that believes his powers are real embarks on a cross country trek to save his co-star from a threat he believes is just as real.
Come see this month's selection on PTO Movie Night, Friday, March 18, 2016 at 6:30 in the cafeteria. This is a free event for students and their families. Concessions will be available for purchase; funds raised will support school programs. This is not a drop off event; children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Art Docent's Needed

Several classes are in need of art docents:
• Whalen • Firman • Hogland • Schwendemen
The Art Docent program at Glenridge gives our students an opportunity to learn about different artists and works of art from different cultures. We have a wonderful set of art to share this year; volunteer to help with this amazing program! Training is provided! Please ask your teacher about helping or contact the PTO for more information.
Volunteers are needed to put together the yearbook. Help record memories that will last a lifetime. If you would like to help, or would like to share photos that you have taken at school events (cell phone photos are great) please contact Lisa Rohlfing.
Have you checked your kitchen? It's time to clip and send in all your Box Tops and Labels for Education labels, the class that brings in the most between now and April 1st will get an extra recess! Second Place gets a special treat!

Friday, April 1st is a spirit wear day! Wear your Glenridge t-shirt or our school colors (navy blueforest green and maroon) and show your Voyager pride!
Join us for school pride days the firstFriday of every month!

Drama Performance

Thursday, March 31st and Friday, April 1st at 7:00, come see Glenridge's production of Hook and Peter Pan: How it all Began.

Donation Drive

April 23rd 9:00 am - 1:00 pm bring them to Value Village (24034 104th Avenue SE). They will pay the PTO for the items you drop off. The class with the most participation (student families that drop off items) will receive a prize. All proceeds will go to PTO programs like field trip transportation and classroom supplies.

We raised $180 at Reading and Art Night! Thank you to all of you who came out, stopped by our table and supported the PTO!

Family Dance Bake Sale

Do you like to bake?  Or maybe a visit to the bakery is more your speed?  We would love to include your small homemade or store bought treats in our bake sale!  Items will be sold at the Glenridge Spring Break Family Dance on March 10 and priced at 50¢ - $1.00. If you would like to contribute, please contact the PTO.
We are still in need of volunteers to help out that night, from decorating to clean up, contact us to help out!

Picture Day

Class and group picture day is March 10thHellriegel's Foto 1 Portrait Studio will be back at Glenridge to get pictures of all the classes and school groups. Bring the order form and check or exact cash if you wish to order pictures. If you have questions please contact the office or call the portrait studio at (206) 242-4866.
If you are part of a group (like drama) that has t-shirts, make sure you wear it or bring it to school so you can have it on in your picture!

Box Tops and Labels for Education Contest

Send in your Box Tops and Labels for Education, the class that brings in the most between now and April 1st will get an extra recess! Second Place gets a special treat!
We've collected $276 dollars worth so far! The competition is  very close, Mrs. Margulis' class and Mrs. Steichen's class are 2 points apart! Keep sending in your labels and get an extra recess!

SIT Meeting

The School Improvement Team meeting is March 8, 2016 from 4:00pm - 5:30pm in the Glenridge Library. As part of a collaboration of staff, parents and community members you will help establish plans for improvement and change, hear about opportunities to get involved and make an impact in your child's education.

Glenridge PTO Seed Sale

It's the time of year to start planning our gardens. Spring planting is right around the corner! This year the we have partnered with Fedco Seeds to offer a variety of veggie and flower seeds for our spring fundraiser.
• $1.80 each
• Orders must be submitted by this Friday March 4, 2016
• Fun prizes for students
• Plant a beautiful garden and support students through the Glenridge PTO

Reading and Art Night


In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America, come to Reading and Art Night!
Tuesday, March 1st  6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Bring your family back to school for reading and art activities, come have free milk and cookies and every toddler to 6th grade student receives a free book!

Be sure to stop by the PTO raffle table and see all the amazing things you could win, including a ride in a police patrol car to be taken that night! Tickets are one for $3 or four for $10.

Lots of fun for the whole family, see you there!
Tuesday, March 1st, come to school dressed in red and white from head (hats are okay today) to toe to celebrate Dr. Seuss! There will be a prize for the class with the most students dressed up!

Drama Parent Work Night

Is your student in this year's production? Friday, March 4th 4:00 - 7:00, we need everyone to join us in order to put the sets together, paint the sets, make sure we have all props needed and make sure lighting/sound systems work. There is a lot to do and so we need everyone to come for a least an hour.

PTO WEEKLY UPDATE 03/08/15


Dance the night away on Thursday, March 12th 6:00 - 9:00. There will be lots of fun for the whole family!
  • Free admission for Glenridge students and their families! (not a drop off event)
  • Professional DJ
  • Bake Sale and Concessions (pizza and other treats)
  • $1 Photo Booth
  • $1 Leis
  • Help duct tape Mr. Abernathy to a wall!
Volunteers are needed to help with sales, manage activities at the dance and donate small baked goods (homemade or store bought, to be sold for 50¢ or $1).  If you can contribute please contact the PTO.

A special bond that develops between a plus-sized inflatable robot and a teen prodigy. They team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes. Come see this month's selection in the Glenridge Cafeteria, Friday, March 20th at 6:30 pm. Concessions are available for purchase. This is not a drop off event.   

Clothing bank volunteers needed!

The Kent School District has a clothing bank run by the Kent area PTA and they are looking for volunteers for Wednesday, March 25th, 5:30 – 8:00 pm. Although we are a PTO and not a PTA, we encourage everyone to support them. This clothing bank serves families throughout the district.  Besides volunteers, they are always looking for donations of gently used clothing and new packages of socks/underwear (all sizes).

  • Kent Fire Department for their raffle donation and for taking the time to come read to the students.
  • Kent Police Department for their raffle donation and for spending the evening at Glenridge.

Congratulations to Mrs. Hogland's class they brought in an impressive 450 Box Tops and Labels for Education! They will be treated to a pizza party!  
Mrs. Thomas' class came in a very close second with 447 Box Tops and Labels for Education.  Mrs Thomas' class will enjoy ice cream sandwiches!

PTO WEEKLY UPDATE 02/22/15


Monday, February 23rd is the last day to turn in all the Box Tops and Labels for Education you've been saving! Send them to school in a bag/envelope marked with your student's and teacher's name.  The class that collects the most will win a pizza party!  All proceeds go to field trip transportation and school programs.

  • Lisa Rohlfing for coordinating the great Glenridge Ice Skating Night.
  • Sno-King ice arena for donating the proceeds from Skating Night to Glenridge.
  • Student Council students and parent volunteers for helping with both the Valentine fundraiser sales and the Scholastic Book Fair.

Glenridge Reading and Art Night

Thursday, February 26th at Glenridge. Free books for students, free cookies, fun reading station, books read by guests from the Kent Police Department and the Kent Fire Department, art lesson provided by Glenridge Art Docents. Buy some raffle tickets ($1 each or 6 for $5) for a chance to win a fire station tour, a ride in a patrol car, or an art kit. 



Red, White and Hat Day

Friday, February 27th Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday by coming to school dressed in red and white from head to toe! Hats are okay for this spirit day!

Student's Favorite Things About Glenridge

  • Favorite school lunches are pizza and spaghetti, chicken nuggets and Brunch for Lunch are close behind.
  • At recess there is always a line at the tire swing; kids also enjoy tetherball, tag and football.
  • PE and Art are two popular classes.
